How To Set Timer On Dehumidifier

When should you employ a timer on a dehumidifier?

Oft when people are buying a dehumidifier for the first fourth dimension ane of the features that they look for is a timer.  They call up that the timer will let them to control when the dehumidifier turns on each mean solar day and this will be the best way to use their dehumidifier – they are incorrect!

A dehumidifier has something called a humidistat that measures the relative humidity of the air (the corporeality of moisture in the air that could potentially cause condensation) and information technology is the humidistat, couple with the setting that you have selected, that decides whether the dehumidifier needs to work or not.  Now if you restrict the dehumidifier by having it turn off for several hours per day then the humidistat will non exist able to do its chore and the dehumidifier volition not spot that you lot have had a bath or a shower, boiled vegetables and as a
effect the relative humidity has increased.  This new moisture in your abode will be free to do as it pleases and will move effectually the business firm until it is absorbed by organic materials, which is a posh style of maxim your wardrobe, clothes, sofa and plaster will absorb the moisture. This is exactly what you do non want to happen and presumably the whole reason why you bought the dehumidifier in the first place was to stop this sort of thing from happening.

Information technology is much wiser to allow the humidistat brand the decisions about the level of wet in the air rather than attempt and gauge yourself.

I of the reasons why people effort and restrict the hours that the dehumidifier runs is because they are worried about the toll of running the dehumidifier.  This is unnecessary.  A dehumidifier is mostly used in U.k. equally a winter production, all of the free energy it uses is returned to the room as heat and heat in winter is a skilful thing.  Secondly by removing wet from the air the dehumidifier is helping to reduce your overall free energy bills considering at that place volition be less wet in the air and therefore less work for the heating system to do.  This is because the heating arrangement has to rut every single water molecule in the air and if the dehumidifier has removed a whole load of them then in that location will be less work for the heating to do to make you warm.

People talk most a clammy chill; this is because excess moisture in the air cools the air, by removing the excess wet the dehumidifier is contributing towards a warmer home.

And then what is the timer there for on a dehumidifier if yous are meant to run them 24/7?  The timer is useful for drying washing at minimal cost.

Dehumidifiers are great at drying washing, popular them adjacent to a clothes horse in a bars space and use the Laundry way to dry out the washing in a couple of hours.  The clothes volition feel softer than they practise when you utilise the tumble dryer considering the dehumidifier does
not utilise heat to dry the clothes, just dry air.

Once you get used to how long it takes to dry your washing you can leave the timer on for say an hour or two and you lot tin can go off to work knowing that the dehumidifier volition work at maximum capacity for a couple of hours and will then switch itself off.  Your washing will be dry when you get back in and the timer will have ensured that you lot have used equally niggling energy as possible to dry out that load.

That is what a timer is for!

  1. I take just purchased a Meaco 12L Depression Energy dehumidifier to combat mould in our bedroom window expanse.

Will it work effectively under a dressing table? – equally it won't fit in the floorspace beneath the window.
Also, do you recommend keeping it on 24/7 during the winter months, or tin can it just be left on overnight ?

    1. Rod,

Thank you for your buy and your message. Your best bet is to place the dehumidifier in the hallway where it has more space and leave the internal doors open up as much equally possible and leave the curtains/blinds open during the day.

  2. Hi Chris,

We take the depression power 20l dehumidifier, we bought it effectually 8 months ago and it has merely e'er reach reached the target one time or twice.. even now in the summer months. What rh is rubber enough to presume no mould volition grow I have ours set to 45.

    1. Brendan,

Mould grows at 68%rh so yous are well below that bespeak. If the machine is collecting water and then all is fine. Please bank check that the filter is clean considering that will reduce the amount of water that you are collecting. A target of 55%rh would be sensible. Hitting depression targets like 45% tin be a challenge, particularly in the humid British summer.

  3. Hi Chris,
I'm on economy 7, and want to run the dehumidifier at night (in the same way the immersion heater is set for instance)
Is there a version with a built in timer? Or could one apply an external plug timer and have the automobile re-commencement when it side by side sees power?
I desire this to work even when I'm out, so don't desire to take to press a timer button every day.

    1. Rob,

Thank you for your bulletin. Don't use a plug in timer with any dehumidifier from whatever manufacturer as that will cause the dehumidifier to neglect much sooner than it should do. Only the Meaco DD8L zambezi has a built in On/Off timer to do every bit you wish safely.

    1. Rafia,

It sounds as though the target is to a higher place the room humidity. Please printing the button under the display and set it to 50%rh. If it is already on 50 so your humidity is already under command. Feel gratuitous to telephone call us on 01483234900 if yous need more help.

  5. I want to buy a demidifier for the loft tin yous suggest which ane is the best

  6. Hullo, Mr. Chris Michael. I am looking for ideas. The first one is about finding the amount of pints I need to utilise for a desiccant dehumidifier if I desire to have an area with 10% humidity.
Also, I am looking for insights for the aforementioned application. I have already an area that accept 10% humidity( a small room). I am having to perform two process using an apparatus that for one office it needs to be at 10% humidity and subsequently, it needs to exist in a higher place 20% humidity. The deal here is that I exercise not desire to transport this equipment from i side to the other ane because it is heavy and expensive.I take idea most isolating the machine like a greenhouse and using a desiccant-dehumidifier that will go 10% and later above 10%.However, this is notwithstanding expensive and might exist even unnecessary.
I would similar to know if you lot have any thoughts in this matter or if yous could recommend me someone or a company to talk about this.

    1. Teresa,

ten%rh is very much a niche commercial application commonly seen in trades like pharmacetical or specialist museum storage for metals. Domestic dehumidifiers are not designed to reach such lows and the desiccant is programmed not to go lower than 30%h/35%rh and volition therefore not work in your awarding.

      Sorry that nosotros cannot aid.

      regards

      Chris

  7. I've simply purchased a ecoair Arion 26ltr dehumidifier. If I gear up the timer on and off, I find I have to do information technology again day subsequently day. Is this correct. Can't I merely set the times for on and off and that's information technology for 7 days or more than. Please advise.

    1. Having to reset the timer each time you want to use it is an consequence with all dehumidifiers apart from the Meaco DD8L Zambezi. Only Zambezi has a Daily Run Timer.

  8. But brought meaco 20l how do y'all turn of time

    1. Terry,

Give thanks you for your buy. The 20L Low Energy dehumidifier has an Off Timer which can be used to forced the dehumidifier to finish after a set up number of hours (five hours for example). This tin be useful for example if yous desire to exit the dehumidifier drying your washing when yous go to work and what it to turn off subsequently a few hours rather than run all day. To gear up this printing the 'clock' button to the left of the display until you see the number of hours required and then let the dehumidifier run. It will turn off later on the number of hours y'all have gear up. This is a one fourth dimension merely performance and you would have to set this each time you want to use the function.

      Hope this helps.

  9. Hi Chris

I have got the new Meacodry ABC 10l. So far so good and it has collected quite a lot of water as we accept single glazed windows so nosotros're expericing condensation. I set the humidistat on 55 but the dehumidifer is staying on even when the humidistat is showing a level beneath 55, 52 for example. Is this normal? I would accept thought that in one case it reached 55 it would automically switch off?

    Please can you advise?

    Many thanks

    1. Chantelle,#

Thank you lot for your buy. Our dehumidifiers stay on until they are 3%rh below the target to ensure that things are stable and to have into account the accurateness of the sensor. So what you are seeing is normal.

      Hope this helps.

  10. Hi Chris I take only found your web page and wonder if you tin advise me? We have a 'vacation apartment' which we visit roughly in one case a month and stay for most a calendar week. Its a basement apartment with double glazed windows and powered by electricity. Nosotros don't open the windows very ofttimes as we are always out and about. We take discovered that nosotros are starting to get mould on the furniture and the bed, bed linen and clothes are feeling quite clammy. We think it is because of lack of ventilation and volition now open windows more often. Exercise you think a desiccant humidifier would help? We could leave information technology on when the flat is empty although this might ship our electric bills sky loftier! Your communication greatly appreciated and any recommendations for humidifiers would be dandy! Thanks again

    1. Jeanne,

This is a common trouble with 2d homes that are empty for a large part of the time. When y'all are there make sure that you are using the extractor fans in both the kitchen and the bathroom. Ensure that any trickle vents are non blocked and that yous take no leaks. You lot can then use a dehumidifier that uses its continuous drainage into the sink or the shower and leave all of the internal doors open up and then that the damp air tin can migrate to the dry surface area created by the dehumidifier.

By using the humidistat on the dehumidifier you will control information technology'due south performance and it will be on for as fiddling time equally possible and although you will encounter an increase in electricity information technology volition be a trade off against less or no mould.

The DD8L Inferior would be the cheapest choice for a desiccant and it would use 330 watts in low fan speed. You could opt for the 12L Low Energy if the flat does not drop down below 10°C and that would simply utilize 165 watts for a like buy price.

Hope this helps. You can e'er call usa on 01483 234900 if you want to chat more.

      regards

      Chris

      1. Hi Chris,

Re using a dehumidifier in a vacation apartment when its empty during the autumn/winter – can you lot recommend 1 please for a 2 bedroom apartment with open programme kitchen lounge, around lxxx sq metres in full? Also please let me know if the window trickle vents tin can exist left open for ventilation or should they exist fully closed. Ideally I want to avoid having any heating on during the empty catamenia.

I wait forward to hearing from yous

        Kind regards

        Ray

        1. Ray,

Go out the trickle vents open up and think well-nigh having heating on depression to avoid outburst pipes over a cold wintertime. With regards to the dehumidifier then the Meaco 20L Depression Free energy volition work fine in a cool environment without costing much to run.

          Chris
